We got these trees about a year ago and had planned to plant them out in the middle of our overgrown yard, but thought better of it once we planted a few and had several issues with them. First, our Cherimoya Tree was eaten by our neighbor’s goats. They found a weakness in the fence and came over for a snack. Then, our Mango tree was surrounded with prickly weeds and our Grapefruit tree got overgrown with grass. They’re just too out of the way for me to go out and keep them cleared. To get to them I have to climb down our steps, unlatch our gate, open our gate, relatch the gate, hike down our steep gravel hill and finally walk through the tall grass and look for my little tree. Did I mention I have to wear long pants and rubber boots? :) So my thought is to keep them nearby so that I’d be more likely to make the time to weed and keep the grass at bay.
This spot looks so much better with a living tree! This is the last time I’m waiting so long to plant a tree. I’m sure by now this guy would be a whole lot bigger had I planted it the week we bought it.
